Durga Puja is the sacred five day festival of the Bengali community held in honour of Goddess Durga and to celebrate her annual homecoming. This year, the occasion is to be observed from 29th SEPTEMBER (Panchami) till 3rd OCTOBER (Dashami). Browse to learn about the Puja schedule for the year 2014 based on the IST (Indian Standard Time). Every year the goddess comes to her paternal house by some mode of transportation, which has some added significance. This year the Goddess is supposed to come on a palanquin, which signifies an outbreak of epidemic. And She will be departing on an elephant which signifies good harvest.

Note: The Puja timings as being based on the lunar month, are subjected to few changes for it can often extend over to the next day or the night. Though Sashthi is dedicated for the inaugurations of pandals as well for last minute touches, the main part of the Puja spreads over four days from the day of Saptami to the day of the Bijoya Dashami on which the immersion takes place. So it may not match, as is the case this year, with the days of the Calendar we follow.
