Use patterned poster board for these attractive place cards.
Like special marbled, colored, gold or silver card is suitable.

All you need:

plain poster board,
patterned cord,
tracing paper,
craft knife,
pencil,
glue.

Steps:

Cut the poster board measuring about 20x10 cm(8 x 4 inches).Trace the pattern for the cut-out area onto tracing paper.Using a soft pencil, shade the area underneath the tracing.

Mark a fold across the center of the cardand a 2.5 cm/1 inch fold at each end of the strip.Lightly score the folds with a craft knife. But do not cut through the poster board.

Lay the tracing shaded side down on the reverseof one half of the patterned card,
positioned centrally.Using a sharp pencil, follow the line of the design.

On a hard surface, use the craft knife to cut out the shape. Then push the cut-out area from the right side of the card. Not from the back. Take care to push out any intricate designs carefully.

Cut out a strip of plain cardmeasuring 9.5 x 7 cm (3-3/4 inches x 2-3/4 inches).
Stick the plain card behind the cut-out area on the patterned card with glue.
Write on it the name you like. And you've done it!
