Vikram was upset on hearing stories about the viciousness of men. Betal told him, "Okay, then let me tell you about a wicked woman."
Once there lived a rich man called Sagardati. He was a widower with a daughter named Mainashri. He was too busy to look after his daughter. So Mainashri began misusing her freedom . She made false promises to many men.
A man named Shridut loved her in spite of that. She decided to marry Shridut. However, after marriage she did not take any care of him and spent time with other men.
One night, she quietly slipped out of her house to meet a lover. Meanwhile, a thief had entered her lover's house and killed him. When Mainashri walked in, she found the man lying dead. A ghost had been watching Mainashri's activities and decided to teach her a lesson. He revived the dead body and made it chop Mainashri's nose.
The wicked Mainashri returned home and blamed Shridut for whatever happened. All her neighbours took pity on her and called the police. After investigation, the police found the thief and caught him for the murder. When he told them the story about the corpse biting Mainashri's nose, nobody believed him. Shridut was imprisoned for cutting off his wife's nose.
Now Betal asked Vikram, "How would you have solved the case?" Vikram, who had judged many criminal cases, said, "I would have checked the corpse's mouth, for if it had bitten the nose , portions of flesh would still remain in its mouth."
"Brilliant," said Betal and disappeared again. |
