Louvre Museum

The Louvre Museum is in Paris. It is called Musee Du Louvre in French. In 1527, King Francis I razed the original Building and started construction on what we know as the Louvre Museum.

Beginning with the reign of Charles V, the Louvre become a place to store work of art. It contained Charles V’s private collection of books and artworks.Subsequent monarchs kept adding to the collection.

Today, the grand museum contains more than 300,000 works of art. There are paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, like the Mona Lisa, and also works of Rapheal. Also on display are famous sculptures, like the Venus de Milo and the Winged Victory of Samothrace.
