During the Ekadasi period, after observing a strict fast, Nanda Maharaja, Krishna's beloved foster-father, went for his morning dip in the Yamuna. Unknowingly, he bathed at an inauspicious hour and was seized by Varuna's servants, carried beneath the waters to face the wrath of the sea-god himself.
The moment the cowherd men realized what happened, they cried out to Krishna and Balarama. The brothers didn't hesitate-they rushed to Varuna's underwater palace to rescue Nanda.
Varuna, feeling humbled before Krishna and Balarama, immediately apologized. "I arrested Nanda by mistake," he admitted. Unable to resist their divine presence, he released Nanda and bowed down in respect.
Back in Vrindavan, Nanda and the cowherds were amazed. Nanda shared how Varuna had honored Krishna. To seal the miracle, Krishna revealed the spiritual world to them-showing the eternal sky of Vaikuṇṭha-proof that he was no ordinary boy, but a divine protector.
This tale reminds us that unwavering love and courage can pull us out of the deepest waters, sometimes literally, and lead us to realize a higher truth.
