Maya, the king of giants; married Hema, the beautiful fairy, who bore him a daughter, Mandodari. Mandodari, Maya and RavanaHema had no affection for her husband or Mandodari, and finally she abandoned them and left for the heavens. Maya wandered in the forests with the baby in his arms. After nearly fifteen years, he suddenly realised that his baby had blossomed into a beautiful girl. Once, they met Ravana in a dense forest where he was captivated by Mandodari's beauty. Introducing himself to Maya, Ravana told him about his rich ancestors and asked for Mandodari's hand in marriage. Maya graciously accepted Ravana as his son-in-law. Though she became Ravana's most beloved wife, Mandodari never hesitated to warn him of his misdeeds.
